The first type of paradox is a theophany. These both occurred and were recorded many times in the Old Testament. In these the Lord did not become human but took upon Himself a form, or expressed a voice, that was readily apparent to humans who were made in God's image. The paradox is in how the almighty can become readily apparent (i.e revealed, manifested) to His human creatures, who can even interact with Him, who so exceedingly transcends them that He could make ex nihilo all of the universe and its living creatures on earth in less than a week.
There were theophanies to: Adam, Gen 3:8-21; Cain, Gen 4:6-15; Abram/Abraham, Gen 12:7-9; 17:1; 18:1-33; Hagar, Gen 16:7-13; Jacob, Gen 35:9; Moses, in the flaming bush, Exo 3:1-22, and at Sinai, Exo 19:16-24; 24:10; Nu 11:25; 12:5; Balaam, Numbers 22:22-35; Moses and Joshua, Deut 31:14-15; Joshua, Josh 5:13-15; Israel, Judg 2:1-5; Gideon, Jdg 6:11-24; Manoah and His Wife, Jdg 13:3-21; Solomon, 1 Kgs 3:5-15; 9:2-9; 11:9-13; 2 Chr 1:7-12; 7:12-22; Isaiah, Isa 6:1-5; and Ezekiel, Eze 1:5-28; 8:2; 10:21-22; Babylonians (the fourth Man in the fire), Dan 3:16-28; etc.
The Lord also appeared to people in visions [daytime or when awake at night] to reveal his plans for them or to unveil mysteries for the future. These occurred with: (Abram, Gen 15:1; Israel, Gen 46:2; others, Job 33:15; David, Psa 89:19; Daniel, Dan 2:19; Daniel’s man in linen, Dan 10–12; Zechariah’s man among the myrtle trees, Zech 1:7-17; Paul, Acts 9:3-7; Ananias, Acts 9:10; Paul, Acts 18:9; and John in Revelation. The Lord also appeared to people with dreams with Jacob in the ladder dream at Beth-el, Gen 28:11-19; 35:7; Abimelech, Gen 20:3; Laban the Syrian, Gen 31:24; Solomon at Gibeon, 1 Kgs 3:5; Joseph at home in Matt 1:20-21; and at Bethlehem in Matt 2:13; etc.
Theophanies could also include other visible encounters such as the fire and smoke on Mount Sinai, Exo 19:18; the descended cloud at the tent of meeting, Exo 33:9; 34:5; the pillar of cloud and fire in the wilderness, Exo 13:21-22, Num 14:14, Neh 9:12, 19; and the smoke filling Solomon's temple, 2Chr 5:13-14; 7:1-2 or visits by the angel of the Lord, Zech 3:1-2; 12:8.
Even more, theophanies may comprise auditory manifestations indicated by statements like and the LORD said... (144x), or the LORD spake... (25x), or the angel of the Lord said (10x), or called (2x), or by any voice from Him heard by God's prophets (Adam, Gen 3:8-24, Enoch, Jude 1:14; Noah, Gen 6:13-22; 7:1; 8:15-22; 9:1-17; Noah or Shem?, Gen 11:6-7; Abram, Gen 12:1-3; 12:7-9; Gen 12:7-9; 16:13; 17:1; 18:1-3; 28:11-19; 32:22-32, 28-30; Moses, Exo 19:20; 24:9-11; 33:18-34:8; Deut 31:15; Joshua, Josh 5:14; 6:11, 21-22; 13:3, 18-22; Job and friends, Job 38-41 chpts.; Elijah, 1Kgs 19:12; Isaiah, 2 Kgs 19:21; Isa 6:8; 16:13; etc.) [For a comprehensive list see: All the "prophets"]. These theophanies include the promised return of Jesus (John 14:3, 2 Thes 1:7-10; 1 Thes 4:14-18) when every eye shall see Him. ]
The second type of theophany was the incarnation of Jesus recorded in the New Testament when He became fully human and conducted His ministry of salvation (John 1:1, 14-15, Matt 1:18, 21-23, Luke 1:35; 2:6-13, 1 John 1:1-4 and Heb 1:1-3). This long-term theophany of about 33 1/2 years would include Jesus' post-resurrection appearances as well. [See: The Resurrection of Jesus Christ]
