"But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding." Job 32:8

"Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." 1 Cor 2:12-14

"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." Rom 8:14

All Old Testament prophecies are statements essentially previewing what will come to pass in the future. Some of these relate to eschatology (study of the end times) that preview circumstances and events that precede and bring about the very "last days."

"And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it." (Isa 2:2; Mic 4:1)

These prophecies are often presented in writing as if the various prophets stood and watched them transpire. "Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come." (1Cor 10:11) These prophecies in their volume and detail give to us an overview of progress from early to later events leading to the establishment of the kingdom of God upon earth. We have prayed for this very thing.

"Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." (Matt 6:10)

Many Old and New Testament scripture texts gave broad and time-sweeping statements of information. Some were precise events and narrow in time. Some texts may be disputed. Many of these texts simply detailed or emphasized different aspects or parts. And this suggested that some event groupings, portions of event groupings, or even portions of specific events may overlap or even be concurrent. The exact timing of future events remain uncertain (John 16:12-14)! Only when they are completed can they be fully understood.

This compilation of Old and New Testament scriptures presents a generalized time line of events without asserting a rigid progression in their order. They follow this broad overview: Setting & Preparation, Rebellion & Carnal Behavior, Trouble & Darkness, Parousia & Epiphany, Retribution & Great Battle / Apocalypse, Christ's Kingdom, and Final Judgment. [The arrows (—>) imply that many of the things in that grouping continue onward in time for a season until their proper termination.]
